Description :
Birla High School, Kolkata organised an interactive session for the parents and grandparents of the Upper Primary Section on the 5th of October, 2024 at the Vidya Mandir Auditorium. The session, named ‘Care, Connect and Collaborate’ was conducted by Ms Mansi Sanghvi Bhayani and Poumanti Gupta, two leading Counselling Psychologists from the city. The speakers steered a precise discussion addressing general issues faced by children regarding aggression, screen addiction, academic lethargy and emotional health in children. Ms. Bhayani spoke about the importance of counselling and how it positively impacts the emotional, social, academic, behavioural, and physical areas of a child's holistic development. The speaker emphasised aggression as being a complex issue influenced by multiple factors. Parents can effectively manage their child's aggression by understanding its triggers, providing emotional support, and creating a positive environment. Screen addiction in students can be addressed through strategic planning, parental role-modelling, gradual reductions, and positive reinforcement, along with the use of technology in a balanced manner. The speaker extensively explained that to combat academic lethargy in students, it's essential to make learning engaging through playful methods and create a supportive family environment. Strategies include fostering teamwork, limiting screen time during family interactions, and using positive reinforcement instead of negative comments. An insightful Question and Answer session with the audience was conducted after the seminar where parents enthusiastically asked personalised questions to the host and got constructive answers. The parents and grandparents were content to have their questions answered and were pleased with the outcome of the seminar.
