GLOBAL EXCHANGE 2022-23

BIRLA HIGH SCHOOL IS CONTINUOUSLY COLLABORATING WITH SCHOOLS IN INDIA AND ABROAD IN VARIOUS PROJECTS. THE GLIPSES OF THE SAME WILL BE FOUND HERE...

NURSERY: The tiny tots of KG through various activities and exchange of information, will be aware that all  animals also need care,protection and attention. They will also be  made aware of the various kinds of animals who can be kept as pets at home and in the farm.Few activities already conducted in are given below:

  • STORYELLING: A storytelling session on The story of Ant and the Grasshopper was conducted by the children with simple props based on the theme. Video was shared with both the partner schools:Ecole Bilingue Edulingua School Accra-Ghana and Bal Bharati School Noida.
  • CRAFT: Children also prepared an animal craft using simple hands-on techniques. Pictures were shared with the partner schools. 
  • RHYMES: A rhyming session was also done where children recited a rhyme keeping ANIMALS as the theme with simple props. 
  •   A pet show was organised to make students aware of the animals which are kept as pets need care and attention.

KG Through this activity good habits will be inculcated in the young learners of Birla High School (India) and their overseas friends, St. Paul’s School, Baltimore, Maryland (USA) to a promote healthy lifestyle as well as physical and mental wellness. The activities taken up were:

  • Role Play: Students through Role Play, recited rhymes and danced on different ways to inculcate good habits in each individual’s life to  lead a healthy lifestyle. 
  • Feely Bag Activity: Students picked up an item from the feely bag and spoke few lines about its usage by an individual in everyday life for inculcating good habits. 
  • Coding Worksheet: : Students identified and debugged the bad habit by colouring the given smiley red and green for the correct one. 
  • Novelty Race in the Annual Sports Meet:  Through a fun race they sorted and picked up only the healthy food items and ran to the finishing lines together with their partners. This created awareness in them to “Eat right, feel bright”.

CLASS I: ‘NOW IS ALL (FIFA)’ is to enlighten the children of Birla High School (India) and Blanchard Elementary School about cultural diversity, through the game of Football. Through various activities and exchange of information, the students of both the schools became conscious about sportsmanship and team spirit. They learnt about the different cultures that exist around them, the importance of respecting the differences in all people and understand that we are all human despite our differences. Few of the activities taken up were:

  •  Meet My Mascot: The students of both schools were shown pictures of various Mascots of FIFA. Thereafter they designed their own mascot and give it a name of their choice. They will also wrte what their mascot represents. Children's work  was displayed in the corridor.

 Unity in Diversity: The students of both schools dressed up in the attire of an individual of any one of the qualifying countries and talked about the following: Greetings in the respective languageSpecial food of the region and an important monument/heritage site in the region.

CLASS II: Through this project ‘SAVE WATER SAVE LIFE children of Birla High School (Kolkata) and Lotus Valley International School (Noida) would develop a consciousness amongst themselves about the importance of conserving water. Through various activities and exchange of information the students of both the schools learnt the value of water and best ways of using it judiciously. Here are the few activities:

  • SKIT-Students spread the message to stop water pollution with special reference to river Hooghly flowing through Kolkata. Children were sensitised to provide everyone with clean water and save life in water.
  • “Little hands can create wonders”- Students made a big cut-out of a cloud. They attached strips of paper with water droplets on it. They will wrote meaningful slogans on the cloud to spread the message ‘Save Water Save Life.’
  • Creative Writing- Students of both the schools wrote a short poem or a composition on the importance of water.

CLASS III: 'Flora and Fauna Around the World' is a project which aims to encourage the students of  how helpful our Mute Friends are to us, in return we need to protect them and prevent them from being extinct. Students will reflect on the phrase “being proud of our national animals & birds” and be true crusaders of “Shoot us with cameras & not guns”. They partnered with DORSONS COMPLEX SCHOOL,GHANA and BERTHA TAYLOR ELEMENTARY, USA.  Few of the activities were:

  • ‘Nation’s pride’ is a A worksheet based activity based on adjectives describing the national flags and flowers of India and Ghana. Students also drew the images of national flowers and used adjectives to describe these.
  • Activity 2- ‘Spectrum’ Designing Rangoli Students designed rangolis with dried leaves and flower petals. The festival of Diwali brought with it an awareness of celebrating festivals without disturbing the flora and fauna around us. Encouraging a ‘Green Diwali‘  by avoiding bursting crackers which cause sound and air pollution.
  • Activity 3: (Online Meet) Weather and Seasons
  • ‘Nature is the best physician’ Students displayed and discussed about the seasonal herbs of both the countries. The interacted with the help of traditional songs sung in each region relating to the theme.

CLASS 4: 'LET’S DO OUR BIT'-  This activity will be conducted to foster a peaceful environment for all to live in. Through the various activities students will learn different ways by which they can care for their society and become good citizens. They will also take a pledge to keep a peaceful environment and take care of it. The activities to be undertaken are:

  • PEACE ONE DAY -Students made a paper “DOVE - a symbol of peace”  to explain different ways in which they can bring in peace where they live and respect for each other. The topic wasintroduced by showing a video on peace followed by a lively discussion. Then the students expressed their ideas and wrote on what peace means to them and illustrated it through a poster.
  • DAAN UTSAV-THE JOY OF GIVING:Students of our school took initiatives to help the underprivileged. It empowers tehm to provide the underprivileged children with nutrition support and improve their hygiene and sanitisation. So boys collected the newspapers, sold corn chaat and they gifted the money to the underprivileged.
  • NATIONAL POLLUTION DAY -TREASURE FROM TRASH-Through Craft: :Students recycled wrappers/ boxes which have been rejected to create something which can be put to use.
  • ‘The story of a plastic bottle’- Discussion with students about any used bottle they threw away was followed by a question/answer round. They also wrote an autobiography of 'a plastic bottle' as well as created useful items using plastic bottles.

A ppt was  showcased to the students' work. This was shared with the partner school,Colegio Esquiu, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

CLASS 5: 'RELISH IN CULTURE FLOURISH IN LIFE': Through this project the students were to participate in various cultural activities using music, dance, art, craft, folklores and ICT as their medium. Their goal was to bring up the varied cultures of the country and to show ‘Unity in Diversity’ and Global Peace. These activities also brought up the similarities and differences in different cultures around the world which the students of both countries will respect and be proud of, thereby the value of tolerance will be highlighted which forms an essential ingredient to curtail conflict and sustain peace. They have partnered with Santiago Hills Elementary Sschool, USA and Victor Primary School, USA.

Few activities taken up were:

  • Ice Breaking activity: The students from both the foreign schools and our school exchanged PPTs on 'MY COUNTRY, MY CITY, MY SCHOOL' 
  • Our Illustrious festivals- Through this activity pupils threw light on the festivals of India. They sang songs based on 'Diwali' and 'Durga Puja' to usher in positivity during festivals. PPTs done by the pupils were exchanged with their foreign friends based on the various important festivals of India.
  • Traditional games of India - The traditional games played all over India will be played by the students of our school and the partner school.
