ACTIVITY 1- INTERNATIONAL PLASTIC BAG FREE DAY:
Students created paper bags using recycled newspaper, which they decorated utilizing various techniques such as thumb printing, ear bud printing, and bottle cap printing. These handcrafted paper bags were distributed to the school staff to raise awareness about reducing plastic usage. Additionally, a 'Plastic-Free Squad' was established, comprising select students and accompanied by a teacher. This squad patrolled the school to collect any plastic bags brought by students. Furthermore, our partner school will provide insights on their effective practices for maintaining a plastic-free environment.

ACTIVITY 2: WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY:
Upper KG students of Birla High School participated in a fun and educational activity to foster environmental awareness. They watched an engaging video on Botanical Gardens, learning about the importance of plants, trees, and biodiversity in sustaining life on Earth. The children then sang the song “The Green Grass Grows Around,” reinforcing the joy of nature and the value of green spaces. To make the day more special, some students brought saplings from home to create a mini garden in their classroom, promoting teamwork and responsibility. This initiative helped instill environmental stewardship and aligned with SDG 13: Climate Action, encouraging students to take small but meaningful steps toward a sustainable future. As part of an exchange with a partner school, Birla High School (BHS) collaborated with Choithram School, Indore on World Environment Health Day on September 26, 2024. Senior Montessori students at Choithram School hosted an event with parents to raise environmental awareness, with each section presenting themes like “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” water and energy conservation, tree planting, and wildlife protection through creative performances. Using props, costumes, and short enactments, students and parents delivered key environmental messages. Highlights included energy superheroes, water-saving skits, and guides on growing plants, making the event highly interactive. The partner school emphasized that “Small actions, when multiplied by many, can transform the world,” reflecting the joint efforts of both schools in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.

ACTIVITY 3:NATIONAL POLLUTION CONTROL DAY
On December 12, 2024, Birla High School, in collaboration with its partner school, Choithram School, conducted a series of impactful activities to foster environmental responsibility and promote sustainable practices among students. These initiatives were organized as part of National Pollution Control Day celebrations and aimed to educate students on the causes of pollution and practical ways to mitigate its effects.
At Birla High School, a pollution cleanup mission was carried out within the school campus to instill a sense of accountability for the environment. Students of Upper Kindergarten learnt the importance of waste segregation through the use of designated 'green' and 'blue' bins, which highlighted how appropriate waste disposal and recycling can significantly reduce pollution. The activity reinforced the importance of adopting responsible waste disposal practices at school and home.
To further raise awareness, students delivered a skit on e-waste and noise pollution ‘Bobby and the Recycling Team’, shedding light on these often-overlooked forms of environmental degradation. They also pledged to conserve energy by turning off lights and fans in unoccupied rooms, emphasizing how small yet consistent actions can contribute to a sustainable future. The mission educated students about key environmental issues, including waste segregation, recycling, and composting. The activities successfully instilled a sense of environmental responsibility and a positive attitude towards adopting sustainable practices. Students expressed feeling empowered to make a difference through their efforts and were inspired by how their partner school, Choithram School, approached combating pollution with the mantra: "Clean air, clean water, and clean land are the birthrights of every living being."
At Choithram School, Senior Montessori children marked National Pollution Control Day with an engaging event featuring an exhibition and a skit titled Our Happy and Clean Home. The exhibition highlighted the effects of pollution on land, air, and water through interactive displays and activities, teaching practical solutions like waste segregation. The skit emphasized the importance of combating pollution and how small actions can contribute to a healthier planet, inspiring children to protect the environment.
