TOPIC: Crusaders of the Environment

ACTIVITY 1- INTERNATIONAL PLASTIC BAG FREE DAY:

Students created paper bags using recycled newspaper, which they decorated utilizing various techniques such as thumb printing, ear bud printing, and bottle cap printing. These handcrafted paper bags were distributed to the school staff to raise awareness about reducing plastic usage. Additionally, a 'Plastic-Free Squad' was established, comprising select students and accompanied by a teacher. This squad patrolled the school to collect any plastic bags brought by students. Furthermore, our partner school will provide insights on their effective practices for maintaining a plastic-free environment.

ACTIVITY 2: WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY:

Upper KG students of Birla High School participated in a fun and educational activity to foster environmental awareness. They watched an engaging video on Botanical Gardens, learning about the importance of plants, trees, and biodiversity in sustaining life on Earth. The children then sang the song “The Green Grass Grows Around,” reinforcing the joy of nature and the value of green spaces. To make the day more special, some students brought saplings from home to create a mini garden in their classroom, promoting teamwork and responsibility. This initiative helped instill environmental stewardship and aligned with SDG 13: Climate Action, encouraging students to take small but meaningful steps toward a sustainable future.
As part of an exchange with a partner school, Birla High School (BHS) collaborated with Choithram School, Indore on World Environment Health Day on September 26, 2024. Senior Montessori students at Choithram School hosted an event with parents to raise environmental awareness, with each section presenting themes like “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” water and energy conservation, tree planting, and wildlife protection through creative performances. Using props, costumes, and short enactments, students and
parents delivered key environmental messages. Highlights included energy superheroes, water-saving skits, and guides on growing plants, making the event highly interactive. The partner school emphasized that “Small actions, when multiplied by many, can transform the world,” reflecting the joint efforts of both schools in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
